Long after his headstone was erected, when he was 38, visitors have left mementos. I learned upon my visit that the grounds keepers clear it off monthly. Everything has been left at one time or another. Ball caps, baseballs, scorecards, etc.
You can view the full Mt. Kensico Cemetery scene in Memory Stones, if you scale down, you will find the Gehrig stone, shown there among other celebrities. What is curious I thought, was that his and his wife's ashes are said to be contained the center of the stone inside, in what appears to be a copper enclosure. Unusual, if true.
